Vinyl And Composite Decks

We have built solid sturdy decks using durable materials appropriate for our harsh New England climate. Our concrete footings extend below the 40” to 48” frost depths on compacted soils so there will be no settlement. The ACQ quat treated lumber we use for the deck framing is aggressive against most metals due to the high copper content so we use fasteners designed for this. We prefer to cover your deck with Thermal Industries vinyl or composite planks for reasons explained below.

VINYL

We have built hundreds of Thermal Industries’ vinyl decks since we introduced this miracle product in 1997. The Dreamdeck 4000 plank has a 5 ½” x 1 ½” extrusion profile embossed with a wood grain pattern. The original Dreamdeck 3000 plank has a 5 ½” x 1 ⅝” cross-section and a snow flake non-skid pattern. Thermal Industries, Pittsburgh, PA, has been a major innovator of vinyl products for 30 years. Thermal’s unique expertise and large investment in new technology have allowed the development of today’s vinyl decking. Three separate vinyls are extruded together into a seamless decking plank with properties superior to imitation products which use a single vinyl formula.

Thermal Industries requires very exacting tolerance on all their vinyl extrusions. So much so that many visually good extrusions are rejected every day. The structural core of vinyl decking is made by environmentally responsible recycling of these out-of-tolerance vinyls. The beautiful exterior surface is made from 100% virgin vinyl powder for superior performance and weathering not found in the pellets or “regrind” used by some other products. Finally, the soft vinyl soles prevent squeaking from foot traffic.

Dreamdeck vinyl decking remains comfortable to bare feet even on the hottest summer day. Many other manufactured decking products become blistering hot and should not be used for barefoot areas such as around pools.

COMPOSITE

Thermal Industries added this beautiful product line in 2003. This third generation composite product has overcome the major short comings of earlier composite decking. Those short comings included unattractive appearance, dramatic fading and color changes, easily stained, hard to clean, short lifetime. Dream Composite decking like all composite decking products, is much hotter under foot than the Dream Vinyl decking. Care should be exercised to exclude it from sunny summertime barefoot traffic locations.
